LOCATED BETWEEN PERTH BOORLOO AND MELBOURNE NAARM
Liam Georg Ayres is a photographic artist based in Boorloo (Perth), following several years of study and work in Naarm (Melbourne). He graduated from Photography Studies College in 2025 with a Bachelor of Photography and Digital Imaging, majoring in photojournalism, and was awarded the Centre for Contemporary Photography Graduate Award.
Ayres’ practice moves between contemporary sports documentary and conceptual art. He has exhibited at the Centre for Contemporary Photography, St Kilda Town Hall, Yarra Sculpture Gallery, and Piazza Fremantle. Alongside this, he has a strong interest in photobook-making and frequently incorporates textile-based processes into his work, expanding photography into tactile and experimental forms.
He has also worked as part of the media team at the 2022 FIFA World Cup and looks forward to attending the 2026 World Cup to develop new photojournalism work. Earlier experiences, including a two-year internship with architectural photographer Tom Ross, an internship at the Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts (PICA), and a mentorship with art director and photographer Ben Clement, continue to inform his approach to both personal and commissioned projects, grounding his practice in collaboration, experimentation and visual storytelling.
